Karateka

The most fun you'll have in a fighting game.

SCROLL DOWN

Karateka

The most fun you'll have in a fighting game.

Created on an Apple II by Jordan Mechner in his Yale dorm room, Karateka became a #1 bestseller and influenced a generation of gamers with its groundbreaking rotoscoped animation and cinematic cutscenes.

28 years later, Mechner returns to his indie roots with a new take on Karateka for today’s digital game platforms, featuring art by Jeff Matsuda (The Batman) and music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilization IV).

Whether you are a nostalgic Karateka fan or new to the game, Karateka will charm you with its classic love story set in feudal Japan. Fight to save the lovely Mariko from the evil warlord Akuma and reunite her with her True Love!

Karateka is the only game we've ever worked on that doesn't have a single line of dialog.  Like a great art film, all the story is conveyed through action, facial expressions, physical gestures, sounds, and music.  It's a wonder to behold!

Underneath the entire game is a sophisticated action-music system that syncs instrumental sounds to the attacks of the enemy.  The result is that, if you are very good, you can play a whole fight with your eyes closed!  Some have even been able to complete the game without looking at the screen.  Are you up for the challenge.

Come.  Step into a beautiful world of romance, action, danger, and true love.

Dragonshard

One of the most innovative Real Time Strategy game to date.

Dragonshard

One of the most innovative Real Time Strategy game to date.

Dragonshard is hands down the most innovative RTS on the market today, despite being created more than a decade ago.

Set in the Dungeons & Dragons world of Eberron, there were 4 factions, 3 of which has complete playable campaigns.

The story is set in a mysterious place called the Ring of Storms.  A location that was added to the Eberron world as a result of this game.  Here, shrouded by a ring of perpetual storms lies a great treasure and an even greater mystery.

Play as The Order (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Etc.), The Lizardfolk (a combined army of intelligent, cold-blooded creatures), or the Umbragen (a shadowy race of dark elves unlike the others on Eberron).

Double layered battlemaps:  Each mission has 2 maps.  Above ground map and the below ground map.  The above ground map is where your build yor strongholds and train your fighting forces.  Below ground lies an ancient collapsed city that holds buried treasure and hordes of monsters.

Above Ground:

Players create their stronghold using an innovative grid system where buildings effect each other depending on their proximity to one another.  From there, they train captains, Heroes, Juggernauts to do their bidding.

Captains command a squad of soldiers who are weak by themselves but are very effective as a group.

Heroes are tougher than captain, have special powers, can level up with experience, and can hold magical items and other inventory.

Juggernauts are the lords of the upper battlefield.  They take a long time to create but their power and abilities are necessary for the end game.

The Above ground map was filled with wonderful detail and interesting tech features like swaying grass, trees, and 'hyper-terrain'.  Hyper-terrain was a layer of terrain that sat on top of the ground layer.  Often indicating sand, mud, or snow, the ground would deform in real time and the soldiers moved over it and would leave tracks.  When it rained or snowed, the the tracks would be smoothed out.  This turned out to be a strong tactical consideration when you traveled overland.

The building grid system, the squad system, hyper-terrain, realtime wind modelling and moving vegetation are just some of the above ground features which have yet to be duplicated in another RTS.

Below Ground:

Under every map, lies another.  The ruins of a sunken city.  It is filled with traps, monsters, and treasure.  Players can send captains and heroes down into the depths to recover treasure and help the war effort.  Ignore the underground and your opponent will gain the upper hand.  Captains are weaker down in the depths since they don't take their squad with them and Juggernauts cannot fit into the entrances to the city.  Every captain has a role similar to a character class in D&D and those roles shine in the depths.  Encountering lots of traps?  Better bring your Rogue captain.

The game played like an RTS on the surface world and played like an action D&D game underground.  This led to the creation of some of the most unique single player missions ever seen in RTS games.

Together:

We used some really hot proprietary technology to allow us two maps operating simultaneously.  With a single keystroke or a click of the appropriate minimap, you would instantaneously be taken to the other map with no load time.  This was unheard of and still never attempted.  It was the first RTS to require strategic thinking on one map and tactical thinking on another.

Innovative in ever way, Dragonshard is a great representation of what Liquid is capable of when properly funded, and has remained in the top 20 in the RTS category on Good Old Games gog.com since it was listed there years ago.

Battle Realms

Battle Realms

Once upon a time there was a proud empire with many great clans.  The Serpent Clan ruled this empire while the other clans like the Lotus and Crane maneuvered for greater control of the empire.  It is said, that in those times a great darkness grew from the shadows and formed sinister creatures of pure night.  They like droplets of rain they dotted the land and overwhelmed the one clan after another.  Tarrant, the leader of the Serpent clan,  was the first to accept the fate of the empire.  He fled to the south with the remnants of the Serpent Clan and it's prized possession, the Dragon Orb.

Further and further they travelled until he could see the Southern Seas and the end of the land.  It was here that he turned and faced the Horde.  Summoning all the power of the Dragon Orb, he separated the southern tip of the continent from the rest of the mainland with the awesome power of the orb.  Neither it nor he would ever be seen again.  The Horde could not cross running water, so Tarrant had saved his people at the cost of his own life and the Orb.

To this protected place came two other Clans, the Lotus and the Wolf.  The Lotus Clan, twisted and corrupt managed to cross to safety by means unknown.  The Wolf Clan, whose matriarchal Druidesses foresaw the drowning of their lands by tidal wave (a result of Tarrant breaking the world) built massive arks for their people which rode the surge and shipwrecked on the new formed island.

How they came to know one another and fight for their piece of the island is the story of Battle Realms!

Battle Realms was born of founder, Eddy Del Castillo's love for martial arts movies, fighting games, swashbuckling epics, and roleplaying.  He mixed that with all he had learned as the producer and the creative head of the original Command & Conquer and Red Alert to create a uniquely detailed and cinematic real time strategy experience.

More than 13 years later, Battle Realms still lives fondly in the hearts and minds of those who played it.  For many it is the best RTS they have EVER played for many more, it served has an inspiration to their own creative efforts and simlar games.

Our flagship creation stands as a lasting testament to the impact a game can have when you take the time, effort, and attention to detail it requires to do something right.

On Steam...

We have been wanting to do this for so long.  To bring this game back and share it once again with all of you has been one of my dreams.  Battle Realms has been Greenlit by Steam and soon you will be able to play it there!

On Good Old Games...

Good old Games has been a wonderful friend and companion over the years.  The original game is available on their site now and soon we will have support for their matchmaking service and more.

Play as the forces of Light or the armies of Darkness in the Real Time Strategy retelling of the J.R.R. Tolkien's greatest works!

This was Liquid's second game.  It was released right before Return of the King hit the theaters and did really well for us and Universal.  It was based on the on the book rights and filled in much of the behind the scenes events that were only eluded to.  Fans of the books were able to play out many of the supporting battles that were so crucial to the story in addition to the, now famous, quest to destroy the ring.

War of the Ring came our a long time ago.  So, I'd be surprised if you could find a copy.  But if you are so lucky, you are in for a treat.  War of the Ring has some of the finest unit balance and single player scenarios out there.  It was a wonderful blend of story and action.
